  Dr. Michael Miyamoto, MD FACC

Dr. Michael Miyamoto

Dr. Miyamoto received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Stanford University where he graduated with Distinction and Departmental Honors in 1988. He attended medical school at University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. He then completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA and the Harvard Medical School. He remained at the Massachusetts General Hospital for his three year cardiology fellowship where he served as a clinical and research fellow in Cardiology, Heart Failure and Transplantation.

His numerous academic awards include election to Phi Beta Kappa in 1987, Graduation with Distinction and Departmental Honors from Stanford University in 1988, election to the Baird Hastings Society at the U.C. San Diego School of Medicine in 1990, Second Prize, Outstanding Thesis Award, U.C. San Diego School of Medicine in 1992 and the Roman W. DeSanctis Clinical Scholar Award at the Massachusetts General Hospital in 1996.

Dr. Miyamoto has been involved in teaching and research throughout his career, receiving a Research Training Grant from the National Institute of Health in 1999. He received the Young Investigator Award from the Heart Failure Society of America in 2000. His original reports and abstracts have been published Circulation, the journal of the American Heart Association, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and other prestigious medical and scientific journals. He served as instructor for medical students in Cardiovascular Pathophysiology in the Division of Health Sciences and Technology, Harvard University & the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His current major research interests are in the areas of heart failure and nuclear cardiology. He is Board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases and Nuclear Cardiology. Dr. Miyamoto joined the MIMG Cardiology Division in 1998 where he directs the Heart Failure Clinic and the Cardiac Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Program. He continues to actively contribute to the knowledge base of cardiology with his publications and teaching.
