Hospitalists
Specializing in the unique needs of the patient within the hospital setting
Many physicians use hospitalists to care for their patients when they are admitted to the hospital.
Hospitalists are internists who, while communicating with the primary physician, handle patient care during time spent in the hospital.
They specialize on the unique needs of the patient within the hospital setting. The Hospitalist, besides being an experienced Internal Medicine physician, also knows the unique internal workings of the hospital environment. Because the hospital is the primary site of their practice they are usually able to spend more time with patients.
This allows hospitalists to deliver:
- Efficient high quality patient care
- Greater availability to patients
- Detailed explanation of test findings to patients and family members
- Prompt care by tracking test results and ordering necessary follow-up tests
